I have a first generation MBP with the core duo processor. I am out of hard drive space, and wanted to replace it myself, but I seem to remember reading somewhere on here (can't find it again) that the first generation MBP HD's had to be replaced by an Apple rep? Is this true, or am I imagining things?

If you're a fix-it sort of gadget man go here:

Installing MacBook Pro 15" Core Duo Hard Drive

Your warranty is probably expired by now but if it's not I wouldn't change the HD yet. Wait until it's expired.

I put a WD 320 gb HD in my MBP with no problems. Upgraded to 3m RAM too.
