Right I'll try and explain what's going on, I've got my website running on my apple MacBook, I've enabled the web sharing in the Sharing pane in Preferences.

I've purchased my domain (Mike Ashfield.) from Domain name registration from 123-reg and have a DYNDNS host at http://d57ru.gotdns.com:8013/ Which shows the default Apache page.

I've then got my 123-Reg domain to 'cloak' the DYNDNS account, the URL I have it forwarding to is http://d57ru.gotdns.com:8013/~Mike/ which works just fine when I try to access the site from the server (the MacBook), and also works fine on other computer on the internet.

But my problem is, I have installed and configured VirtualHostX for Mac so that I have to two sub domains http://mike.mikes-stuff.co.uk/ and http://files.mikes-stuff.co.uk/ They work just fine when I access them on the LAN and on the internet via those links, but when anybody else tries to access them it says that the server could not be found.

So if you have any idea why this might me happening, the PLEASE message/post a comment here!)

Thanks,
Mike xxx

Why would you want to run your personal site from your Notebook?

because:

  1. I can't afford to host it any other way.
  2. It's not going to be a 'big' website; Just a tiny personal one.
  3. I will be using the files subdomain to send files to friends rather than using MSN messengers file transfer tool.

Well reason I ask is because you can get hosting about just a few dollars a month, and not have to worry about anything...

But to answer your question, you probably need to use your Domain registrar to setup your sub-domains.

Lots of other hosts out there.
