Video Editing Capabilities on 2.4 GHz Macbook

I am looking to purchase the 2.4 GHz, 2GB Memory Macbook. I do moderate video editing (generally just putting .avi file clips together to music) and am wondering if this Macbook will work for my needs. I'm not wanting to go with a Pro because of budget and portability issues (because video editing isn't my primary use). It's just that I'm new to Mac and I am used to long rendering times and "jumpy" video with Windows based computers, so I'm hoping to eliminate that. Any opinions would be appreciated!

I was in a similar position, and against most peoples advice I went for the macbook over the pro, due to similar reasons as you. Ive edited AVCHD footage on it with no problems whatsoever, it works well and Imovie although limited in flexibility, to make quick short videos that look great it is an exceptional tool.

2.4 GHz MacBook Pro SR
I have done quite a bit of editing using iMovie and it runs very smooth on my 2.4 Macbook. You cannot run Final Cut Pro on a MacBook though which is one reason I am looking to buy a MBP. My Macbook will be for sale soon.
