To make money anywhere and especially off of the Web you first have to have something which people want to buy. In a shop this is reasonably easy if you are selling say flowers then you open a florists and offer buches of flowers for sale. If you then wanted to apply that same shop to the Web you could by doing the same sort of thing.

Fitness however is a difficult market to crack. It all depends on what your specialist area is.

If you were a personal trainer then you could set up a website advertising your services as a personal trainer and allow people to make online bookings of your time. That is easy enough to do.

If you wanted to offer fitness advice then you get into a trickier situation as people can find a lot of information on other free websites that they do not have to pay for. For example there are a whole heap of websites out there that offer diets online for free. Also with a lot of people having gym memberships most gym's will offer diet and fitness advice for free. The only real way of you making your money on the internet is by offering something that is unique. Something that people cannot get anywhere else or by offering something that people already pay for elsewhere but that you can offer cheaper.

Once you have decided upon what you want to offer on your site you then need a catchy title AND an easy to remember web address. It is no good having something like mikeandersonsnumberfitnesswebite.com people will not remember it. They will however remember getfit.com

Then you have the problem of advertising your website. You can have the best website out there but if no-one knows about it you won't make a penny. You need to advertise it and in the right places. If you advertise a fitness website in runnning magazine then you will get people visiting. If you advertise it in a magazine all about fishing you will be lucky to get any hits at all.

Cost is another big factor. You need to do some research and find out how much your customers are willing to pay. £25 a month is ok but what do the customers get for there money? If all you are selling is a page of dieting tips you will find people are unwilling to pay that much they are more likely to pay £5 a month.

How often will you update your content? If you only update your content every three months then people will want to pay for three months at a time. If you update weekly then you will ba able to charge weekly. Be honest from the start as to how often the site and advice will be updated. If you fail to keep your promises then you will have angry customers.

You also need some sort of legal clause that people have to agree to otherwise there is nothing to stop people from taking the info from your site and putting it on their own website for free thus putting you out of business.

I hope that the above has given you a few pointers to think about.

Regards

Cheese

Ok you can do this. Usually in the form of banner adverts. See the top right of all pages in this forum. The current one is advertising bandwidth for iWeb technologies. The way that this usually works is that the company will supply the banner and all the required code and all you do is add it to your website.

However no company is likely to want to advertise on a site without first viewing it and it's content. They don't want to be associated with something crud. So once you have convinced a company to supply you with a banner you need to make sure that your website is being visited. The company that supplied you with the banner will then usually give you a small fee for each referral. i.e. A person visits your website and then clicks the banner. That person then signs up to whatever service the banner is advertising and the company then gives you a small fee for referring them on.

The downside is that you need to refer a lot of people each month to make any real money. The websites that I know that do this only make about £10 a month. Maybe enough to pay some of the hosting costs of the website. Certainly not enough to live off of. You would need to find some other way of making money to live off of.

I really do hope that your project takes off. If you want any more advice please just ask.

Google adsense is the best option for you. You won't be rolling in the dough, but it should get you some cash if you have a frequently visited site. Everytime someone but you clicks the links you get some money, it changes depending on what the site is to determine the amount of money.

But how often does someone actually click those links, I find them pointless and a waste of space!
