I just got back from a Apple Store with a 4GB iPhone. I haven't opened it yet but I've always heard for maximum battery life always fully charge a item first, sometimes overnight or for 12 hours. Is that true on the iPhone and newer products?
Do I need to charge battery first before use?

You have to plug it in to activate it, so just leave it in until its fully charged (takes less than 2 hours because they give it to you with a decent charge) and set everything up while its plugged in
