Linksys Wireless Router when using Ethernet

20" iMac Intel Core 2 Duo (Aluminum & Glass) 260 GB HD
Okay, so I can detect the wireless internet connection easily enough but thats wireless and only 54mbps compared to wired 100mbps. When I try to connect to the router in the wired method, it doesnt detect the connection.
anyone have any ideas?
