    Best storage option?
    Hi gang -

I know that backing up a system is important - what's the best way to do this for a mac? DVD? External HD? I don't want to pay for .mac if I really don't need it, and all I want to do is save things in case of a HD failure - or bad update...

Suggestions? DVD is the cheapest way...

    Thanks.

EDITED TO ADD: I am reading the manual for SuperDuper right now - it recommends an external firewire HD...but in regards to size, how many of you actually match the size of your external HD to your internal HD?

External HD is probably the best option. When I had a backup, it used a HD that was larger than the computer's HD.

external would be the best way in my opinion. I have to agree with StretchR. if you want to go cheap as you said use dvd's. It might be cheap but it will be a pain!

I'm looking at the LaCie line - I'm sure it will be worth the $$.

I have the MiniStack V2 enclosure from OWC. I put my own Western Digital 300 GB hard drive in it (cheap at Sam's Club and Costco and Frys, etc. etc.).

The drive is partitioned into pieces that match the hard drive sizes of the Macs I'm backing up (e.g., 80 GB for my iBook, etc.). This way, I never have to worry about a full Mac drive's outsizing the partition I'm backing up.

By using SuperDuper, I wind up with a large external drive with several bootable partitions that can be used in the event of a Mac hard drive crash.
