I recently got a new router and have changed my wireless password. When I try to back up to my timecapsule, I get "The backup disk is not available." I think it probably needs to be connected with the new password but I don't know how to do this.

Since the Time Capsule is also a router how do you have it connected to the new router? Was the new router supplied by your ISP and did they connect it for you?

Hmmm. No, I guess the Time Capsule's failure to be discovered is a different problem. I will try turning it off and on.

Hello and welcome to the forum! :)

You're need to respond to the previously question asked, i.e. Time Capsule is a combination router & backup drive - having two routers running can be an issue, so please tell us how your hardware is configured: 1) Do you have a cabled, DSL, or other ISP service; 2) Is your ISP connection coming into your other router or into your Time Capsule; and 3) How are the two routers attached? You should be able to just use the Time Capsule alone as your router and its backup drive. Dave

I downloaded the manual for my Timecapsule which is from 2009. From what I can glean, the Timecapsule is not connected to the Internet. When I go to my Airport Utility, the Timecapsule is not detected. The manual says to disconnect the modum from it's power source and before reconnecting it, be sure it is connected to the Timecapsule with an ethernet cable. Since we recently changed the modum, it seems that my first thought might be correct - I need to figure out how to tell the Timecapsule the correct password. Suggestions?

Hello again - I'm still not clear about the arrangement of your computer equipment, but will make a guess: 1) Modem is cabled (i.e. ethernet - like a BIG phone jack) to your new router; 2) Router is cabled to your computer; and 3) Time Capsule (TC) is NOT cabled and you're expecting to connect to it via the Wi-Fi network created by your new router - please verify.

Also let us know your computer type (i.e. iMac vs. laptop) and its year, the OS X installed on the computer (e.g. Mavericks), and whether your computer is connecting to the internet w/ just the new modem.

Finally, what are you trying to accomplish w/ the TC - I'm assuming that you want to use the device as an external storage drive for Time Machine - correct? Dave :)

Hi. I have reset my TC and now have much more knowledge (set it up in 2009 originally). It was not hooked into my router but to reset it, I connected the TC to the router with an ethernet cable. Then, instead of creating a new network, I connected the TC to the existing network. I am successfully backing up my MacBook Pro (Yr- 2013; OS X 10.9.4) now (the main use for the TC) and hope I can disconnect the ethernet - don't want to do it during the back-up in case I lose the connection. Does that make sense? I assume I will be able to disconnect the ethernet since it had not been hooked up previously. Liz
PS- I connect to the Internet via WiFi-no cable.

Hi Liz - I'm still not completely understanding how all of your equipment is connecting, so please try to answer my specific questions: 1) What ISP is bringing broadband internet to your home, i.e. DSL, cable, or satellite; 2) Is this source connected to a modem (you indicated getting a new modem before) and how; 3) Is that 'new' router setting up a Wi-Fi network (you mentioned connecting w/o no cable; last sentence in quote above); and 4) Do you want your TC to create your backups of your laptop wirelessly (i.e. you do not want to cable the TC at all) - in all honesty, this should really be not that confusing so we need to understand your current setup better and your desires. Thanks - Dave :)

Hi Dave. Thanks for following up. I have my problem solved and my TC is working properly after I reset it and it is working wirelssly (i.e. without the ethernet connection). Here are the answers you were looking for: 1) Our broadband comes in through a cable; 2) the cable is connected to a modem which also serves as the router to...3) set up the WiFi network; 4) I want my TC to create backups for my laptap wirelessly.

I was able to work the problem out, even though I sound fairly ignorant. Even though I tend to understand the workings of my computer, router, wifi, etc, I don't always use the right lingo and I thank you for your patience. Thanks again for hanging in there. Liz

Hi again Liz - appears that you've worked through your own solutions - GREAT!

Congrats - don't know if I helped much but glad that you are now happy w/ your backup - post back if other issues arise. Dave :)
