Hi,

I'm trying to sort out an external hard drive for my mum. She has a macbook pro with 500GB. we bought an external hard drive (1tb) one of these:

Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex 1TB USB 2.0 Ultra-portable External Hard Drive - Black: Amazon.co.uk: Computers & Accessories

I partitioned it with 300GB for time machine backup for the macbook (she'll never fill that up).

This leaves 700GB that i'm going to fill up with videos and music for her to use. I want it to work on the macbook but I also want it to be used to play media using the USB of this BLu ray player we have:

Sony BDP-S570B 3D Blu-ray Player: Amazon.co.uk: Electronics

but it says it can't read it.

What format should I put the 700GB partition in for it to work on both the macbook and the blu ray player?

Thank you

First... Please do not double post or cross post. You asked this same question in two different posts. And, additionally you posted a "test". One post is sufficient. The other two posts have been deleted. Thanks.

As for the external hard drive 700 GB partition, FAT-32 should be common to both the Mac and the blue ray player. The problem with FAT-32 is that the file size will be limited to around 4 GB. That means movies and videos which exceed that in size can not be placed on the drive.

The only other file system that the blue ray player might recognize is NTFS, however, the MacBook by default can only read NTFS not write. You would need a third party driver to write to the drive from the MacBook.

Go to the Sony website and check to see which file systems that particular player can read from before deciding how to format the 700 GB partition.

First... I didn't intentionally cross post, the first time I posted it flashed up with a message saying my post wouldn't appear but disappeared before I could read what it said, the second time the submit thread button didn't load, maybe you should fix your website

If you're having problems posting or seeing your posts (all three of your posts appeared in this forum), report it to a Staff member. Posting back and complaining about being told doesn't help.

Thanks for your comments.
