sharing a printer and files between xp and osx

I already ahve wireless network for the internet on my powerbook and pc running, how would i go about sharing files and sharing a printer between xp and os x. I went to best buy and the guy working there told me i needed to start adn ftp server adn that was the only way, i thought that was a little drastic and just didnt want to answer the question. Does anyone know how i should or even can set this up.

Oh gosh, this is far too complex! From experience (3 weeks in mac only), I shared my folders and printer under Win XP. Then in mac osx, I serahc on the network for my win xp machine, and tadaaaa, there it was, files and printer.
