    MBP External Monitor Problem
    Hi Guys,

I know this has been a common problem and mentioned on here before but no solid answer was found.

I recently bought a 20" Dell monitor and the apple wireless keyboard to use my MBP as a desktop as I no longer need portability.

My MBP runs native at 1680x1050, my monitor is supposed to run at the same but when I look at the list of available Resolutions it jumps from 1600x1200 to 1792x1344.

It runs at slightly lower resolutions but this is noticeable, and whats the point in having a larger monitor that runs at a lower resolution?

    Any solutions?

    Thanks, Oli

    Specs:

The native resolution of the current 20" Dell monitors are:

    widescreen monitors - 1680 x 1050
    now old sytle 4:3 monitors - 1600 x 1200

Whichever you have, that is the resolution you should be using.
Disregard any resolutions it may have listed above it's native resolution. All it will do is scale it down to fit it's native res.

    Hi,

I realise that I want 1680x1050 for my Dell monitor, but the option is simply not there when I open display preferences. I'm not trying to run it at a higher res, and I don't want to bother using it at a lower res.

What is the model # of the Dell?
