I'm having the same issue. I've got a Seagate external drive that I have read only access to. A friend talked me through the Utilities/Terminal process of setting up the full read/write permission without success (inserting line of code with drive properties). Is there another way that I can go about doing this? Thanks.

Cmd-i on the selected hard drive. You should be able to change the permissions in the info box. I've never tried it on an external drive before, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

You can change the permission of a drive that you've already got full access to in the info box. In this case, I effectively lack admin rights (this can't be changed in that menu with an external drive). I can read the drive and copy files from it, but not make alterations.

tyler...do u not have admin access because someone else is the admin for your machine or because you normally log into a non admin account

if you have access to the admin account log into it & make the changes...

I have admin access. That's my standard login account. With this drive (NTFS formatted), it won't let me make that change.

    Edit: My OS is 10.4.
