    G4 Tiger and OS 9
Disk Utility running on the boot disk can't repair. It can only verify.

You need to boot the computer from the system-install disk and run that version of Disk Utility.

Or you can do the same thing without the hassle of using the DVD by following the fsck -fy instructions here.

e46ci - I believe (not certain) you need to boot from the install disk to be able to perform this. Put in install disk and reboot. Hold C while booting and choose disk Untility from installer menu. Click first aid. Click on the triangle to the left of the hard drive. Select Mac OSX and click repair.

    See how you go.

    sweet - that worked.

Now on to problem #2... I pop in the xp disk and it goes through the startup. But when it comes to the screen that says Press Enter to Install XP, my keyboard seems to be dead. Any ideas what I can do to get my keyboard to accept input?

Can't help you with Question 2. I have a G4, so you have more knowledge of Boot Camp than I do.

yes... bootcamp is installed and I've already used it to partition my drive. It then prompted to insert the xp disk and install. The keyboard dies at this point...
