Hello everybody! If you use a huge ad blocking hosts file (+ 10'000 lines) under windows xp you need to turn off the unneeded DNS Client Service, otherwise it dramatically slows down the system. Now i need to know how to do this under osx. As far as i know "lookupd" is the equivalent of DNS Client Service. Can this "service" be turned off? My big XP hosts file works fine under OSX, but some apps like e.g. safari, gameranger, etc. dont seems to like it. After launching them the service "lookupd" goes up to 99% cpu usage and seems to be stuck. Someone knows how to fix it?
