    Specs:
    17 inch 2 GHz C2D imac (5,1) with 3GB DDR2 RAM, X1600 (128MB memory) GPU - OSX 10.6.3
Exactly how is it not allowing you? What is it telling you when you try this?

Is the firmware up to date?

Yes this should be possible I think. And according to This Apple Link your machine should be able to do it.

And if you're going into upgrade. Just go for 10.4.9 the latest version out.

We'll need a little more info before we can help you.

The exact message that comes up when I double click the OSX and Bundle installer Icon is "Mac OSX cannot be installed on this computer. Please consult the documentation for a list of supported computers"

Im not sure about the firmware, how do I check if its ok / out of date..

    Determining BootROM or Firmware Version

That link should help you in determining what firmware version you have.

And this link should be of use too.

Mac OS X: Available firmware updates

And search the apple downloads section to download the firlware you require. If you need it that is.

    And here's your problem.

You will need to use a retail version of Tiger. Sounds like you are using the recovery media that was bundled with another Mac. These cds/dvds are designed to run only on the specific hardware they shipped with.
