Hey All,
I have a MBP late 2011 running Yosemite and every time I reboot my laptop the application, Messages, opens up on the desktop. I've looked at preferences>users & groups>login items and messages is not listed there. I don't have messages open when I reboot either. I'm not sure why it keeps opening. Any help would be greatful. TIA!!

When it's open, try right click on the Dock icon, then Options, then see if "Open at Login" is clicked.

The only item selected in the menu under Options is; Keep in Dock.

Go to System Preferences/General and make sure "Close windows when quitting an app" is checked.

I think that I have corrected the issue. Did repair permissions, rebooted and iMessages did not open this time. Go Figure!! lol

Thanks for all the suggestions. We never know until we try. : )

It's nice to know that the good old Disk Utility Permissions Repair still seem to work and fix things, and it will be interesting to see what happens when OS X 10.11 El Capitan is released where that ability has apparently been removed.

Hmmm….????

Ok the issue is back again and I have no clue as to why it's happening all over again. Rebooting my laptop and get's to desktop and then opens iMessages by itself. I WILL not and should not have to repair permissions every time I reboot my laptop. Can anyone else offer some suggestions to why I keep having this issue?? Thanks!!

Reboot your MacBook Pro in safe mode and see if iMessages opens. Give that a try and let us know.

When this happens and the window opens do you have messages showing that have been received recently.

Just to check, when you R click on the dock icon do the settings look like this? NOTE; I have Assignment to "None". Screen Shot 2015-08-28 at 13.09.54.png
