email address book deleted

While trying to get an email contact out of one group and into another, I've just accidentally deleted everyone except three names from my email address book. My MAIL system is version 6.6 (1510). My operating system is OS X 10.8.5 Can anyone help please?

Restore the contacts from your Time Machine backup. Or, if you were syncing with iCloud (iPhone, iPad, etc) you can restore your contacts by using a third party application such as iExplorer. However, you need to restore before syncing again or you will lose those contacts permanently. If you have no backups and were not using iCloud then you can possibly recover the contacts by using data recovery software. Data recovery software is usually expensive so it may be better just to type them in over again.

Thank you so much for your reply. However this morning I forgot there had been a problem and needed to add a new contact. Mystery! - the missing ones are all back where they should be. It looks like the low-tech solution to many computer problems has applied itself overnight: shut down, and forget about it overnight. But I'll keep your comments safely filed in case of future need, with many thanks again. Best regards from Minnie
