OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 I can't empty my trash within apple mail because the trash folder is missing. I can delete messages but I don't know where they're going. This is my first forum question, sorry if its a lame one :) Can someone help me figure this out?

Have you tried to re-create the Trash folder that was deleted? Also, I notice you stated you're running 10.10.2 when you should be running 10.10.4. Why haven't you updated Yosemite?

First things first ..... in the View menu does it say " Hide Delete Messages " or " Show Deleted Messages " ?
Alternatively ... In Mail, from the Mailbox Menu, create a new mailbox.
From the same menu " Use This Mailbox As " --> Trash Mailbox

Also,in Mail -->Preferences --> Accounts --> < your account > what does it say with regards to the Trash Folder ?

Cheers ... McBie

Chscag,
I evidently don't have enough disc space to update to 10.10.4. This is another of my issues. I can't get my mac clear enough. I trash loads of stuff and still its full. I did recreate a trash folder, but it doesn't act like the original one. That is, the messages are not at the top of the list with the draft, sent and vip folders. Which reminds me the draft folder went away also, until I sent a message to the folder and suddenly it was back. Thank you for your reply!

McBie,
Both Hide and Show deleted messages are greyed out.
I created a new mailbox and called it Trash but when I "trash" an email it doesn't go into it automatically. The mailbox is located "on my mac" rather than at the top of the list of Mailboxes. Where are my deleted emails going?
In my account it says "Move deleted messages to the trash mailbox" and "Permanently erased deleted messages when a month old"
Thank you for your reply!

Your hard disk running out of space might be the source of all your problems. It might be a good idea to replace the drive with a larger one and start over.
