.dmg won't delete in trash

Please help. I just ejected a dmg file and transferred them to trash. I tried secure empty trash but the process stuck and wont complete. When I tried to open it in the trash, the icon could not be selected and looked as washed out. When I exhausted all the means to delete it, it just stucks halfway deleting the item but nothing happens.

It wont be deleted at all. What should I do?

Welcome to the forum! I would suggest shutting down, seeing if you get a "Force quit" message or any other message about the shutdown, then boot and see if you can then delete it. You may have moved it to trash before it was completely unmounted, leaving it in never-never-land.

Was this .dmg file on a removable media when you deleted it ?
If yes, insert that removable media again and then empty trash.
