Kernel panic ejecting external drive

Hi everyone,
For about the last month or so I have been experiencing issues with OS X and my external, thunderbolt HDD. If I eject the external drive and then turn it off via power switch, OS X freezes, crashes, and reboots to the gray screen that says "your computer restarted because of an error...". Just ejecting the drive, or unmounting volumes does not cause any issues, it's only when I flip the switch on the drive to turn it off that OS X crashes.

I think it started happening ever since I upgraded Yosemite to the 10.10.2 pre-release beta (currently have the full release). This does not happen with any other drives except this one.

I looked through the system logs, and found a crash report for a Kernel Panic at the time of the crash, which I will post below.

Details:
- LaCie 3.0TB Thunderbolt external HDD
- Late 2012 iMac 27"

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Unless you did a clean re-install of the final release version of Yosemite, then it's possible a buggy driver/kernel extension got left behind from the beta version. I would backup your system; wipe the drive clean; then reinstall Yosemite from scratch and manually migrate your user files back over. I would avoid using Migration Assistant just to avoid the possibility (unlikely as it may be) of it adding back a faulty driver.

Yeah, thats definitely something that I should have done in the first place. I was just hoping I wouldn't have to do a clean reinstall. Thats probably my best option now, as well as the quickest fix to my problem.

Just realized that this external HDD does the same with my MacBook as well. Now it looks to me like its the drive and not either of my comps.

it's not the drive!!!

Your tripping security with virtual box.

Virtual box is accessing the drive when it is connected and when virtual box malfunctions the drive malfunctions i just had this happen to myself on virtual box it won't demount a drive and i can't eject it without a kernel panic .

Wth is going on.

Sounds like this may be something to take up with LaCie then. It may be some faulty hardware component. I'd try a different cable for laughs.
