Love your avatar, Bill. My favorite comic strip. That and the long gone Bloom County.

Just installed Yosemite. Sort of retro looking with the flatness, as it's been stated many times in this thread. But simple is ok with me if it leads to better efficiency. No problems so far, although the laptop itself (13" MBP non-Retina) is only a week old, so I don't have much on it besides Photoshop and MS Office.

On a side note, installed the iTunes update a few mins ago. All I can say is how very un impressed I am with this new UI. That is the nicest way I can put it. Really not a fan at all of the paper mario theme they have going on here.. Each day brings me another step closer to going back to Linux.

I figured curiosity got the better of you!;) And with all the forum talk...you couldn't resist.:)

That might be true....actually probably true....I am still blaming the evil gremlin.

I will be holding off with installing Yosemite on my MB Pro. I can't afford to have that one messed up. I use it for too much video work. They have to get Yosemite more ironed out first.

My mail is still messed up. Now none of my three accounts work. At first my work account was fine now it is not working. I hope they get a fix out soon.

There is no Bookmarks button in customize. The button is in the Bookmarks Bar which cannot be customised.

Unless you know of a different way?

Ok, now that I'm sitting back in front of my Mac... I don't know what the problem is. Maybe it's because I've always used the "Bookmarks" menu item up top, but I just don't see the utility of having a button for bookmarks also. *shrug* I'd bet on someone making an extension to fill that need.

As a side note... I was really a bit miffed that they took away the bookmarks bar (favorites). Until now, that is. I just noticed that clicking in the address bar brings them up in a pop-up window. Nice!

Installation was smooth as silk on my 2010 MacBook and 2011 Mac. I quite like the new look - to each their own. So far no issues with workflows. Life as usual, but with added integration across my devices (iOS 8 on my iPhone and iPad).

24 hours into Yosemite and all is well.
Flat interface suits me nicely I must admit.
No issue with my 4 mail accounts ( both POP and IMAP )
1 curiosity is that Safari ( with 7 tabs open ) sometimes comes up with " Safari could not find the server ". A " reload page " fixes that immediately.
To be honest, I am not going to upgrade the iMac until .1 is released. That machine is too important to take any chances :)

I guess it is not a good thing that so many people are experiencing problems with this major release.
Hopefully, Apple will have .1 ready soon.

Cheers ... McBie

I loaded Yosemite last night and so far I haven't had any problems with it but I'm a very casual user, nothing professional. Ghostery doesn't seem to work with this OS and for the life of me I can't figure out how to easily maximize and minimize my screen.

Ghostery seems to be fine here. And you minimize your windows by using CMD-M as always. Or do you mean the "shrink/expand to fit content" (Zoom) option that was originally handled by the green button?

Well still no mail. My one work account was working but I discovered that mail only showed up in the collective inbox and when I clicked on the mailbox name all the mail disappeared. I have removed the mail accounts then reset them up. I have run disk utility to repair permissions. I am at a loss. I have to access my accounts through web interface - most inconvenient.

I also noticed when I open Excel I get an error that a file could not be found and a list of suggestions on how to fix it. Then the program opens and all is fine - very weird. Word works fine. Outlook, which I tried to set up will not work. Says it could not change to that identity - I have no idea what that means since I have never set it up before. I just hope the built in mail app gets fixed.

I'll go back to Ghostery and try a reload.
Yeah I meant the button. Sorry! :[

Thanks for the help!

Yosemite seems to have deleted Ghostery from my extensions. Went back and reloaded it just fine.

Create a new keyboard shortcut instead. The menu item is named "Zoom", so open System Preferences » Keyboard » Shortcuts. At the bottom, select App Shortcuts. Hit the + sign to create a new one for "All Applications". In the menu title box, enter Zoom. Then set a custom keyboard shortcut that you will remember. If you never use the CMD-M for "Minimize", then use that if you like.

Time Machine can't roll you back. Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper is what you need to revert back without reinstalling. Don't leave home without either one! ;)

Cant I just run TM right before installing Yose, then turn TM off and install Yose. Try Yose out and see how it runs. If its all good, just turn TM back on and keep going. If its bad, just reboot the Mac and restore from my TM backup I did right before installing Yose???

I haven't had problems so far with the exception that iTunes sometimes seems slower than usual when you click the play/pause button. Might not be consistent though. The effect doesn't seem as pronounced today as it did yesterday.

If you do that you'll still end up with Yosemite.

TM doesn't back up the operating system.

Ahh heck Nick you move my thread and I almost got lost looking for it.. LOL

I got it installed and am trying it out. TM backup is turned off until I feel its solid.
At first glance I feel the Min/Max/Close buttons were very poorly done. Even the X on the close button isnt centered. Thats a FAIL.. LOL Few other things dont contrast very good at all. The folder icons I would swear were stolen from KDE. Darkmode does help the contrast at least on the desktop part and helps with my photography. Although they should have included the left click menu in that Dark mode.

Have tried most all my programs out, nothing yet to worry about. But I havent stress tested them. Will let it run tonight on its own and mess with it more tomorrow and see if I can break anything.

Cheers,
Joe

Yea I started it as a general discussion about everyones opinion of Yosemite after installing, but looks likes its turned into a help thread per se anyway..

Seems to me Apple had a look at Synology DSM 5; that OS (for Synology NAS servers) has a more or less similar 'flat' look as well.

Installed OSXY yesterday, so far so good. Only Onyx, an Trim Enabler (for SSD) not working, all other programs appear to be OK. But apart from the interface... I personally do not notice any differences with OSX Mavericks.
