Hi, I am new to this forum.

I am using a late 2009 21.5 inch iMac running OSX10.9.2.

Since using Mavericks I have experienced random freezing of the cursor while using my Magic Trackpad. I have not been able to discern any particular situation which triggers the freeze. To cure it I either have to restart, or using a usb tablet click on the bluetooth icon - NB it is not necessary to click connect.

I have in the past few weeks clean reinstalled Mavericks and obtained a new trackpad. This seemed to cure the problem for a couple of weeks, but now it has returned. Can anyone help?

Thanks in advance, Chas

What other blue tooth devices do you have in addition to the trackpad and are any of them turned on or paired to your iMac?

One thing you can try is to "un-pair" all your BT devices, afterward turn off BT, then turn it back on. But before pairing any device again, do a SMC reset: Shut down your iMac, remove the power plug from the AC wall outlet and let it sit for 10 minutes before powering up again. After powering up, pair your magic trackpad again and other devices that you use. Do not turn on any BT devices that are not in use. Keep them powered off.
