I am upgrading my copy of windows 7 on my mac to windows 8. I have removed windows 7 but now when i am trying to install windows 8 via the bootcamp assistant, the slider to select the partition size wont move. If i click on it it changes from 12GB (win) to 20GB (win). How can i change it so i can allocate 80GB to windows? (i have enough room)

Also note my mac has a SSD (2012 15" Retina MBP)

Thanks, Hayden

First, I don't understand why you just didn't install Windows 8 over the top of Windows 7? It's a proper upgrade.

Anyway, here's what you need to do: Go back to the Boot Camp Assistant and use it to remove the Windows 7 partition. That will get your hard drive back to the way it was before installing Windows 7. Once you've done that, use the Boot Camp Assistant to create a new partition of 80 GB and then proceed with installing Windows 8.

I needed to change the partition size from 125 to 80 because i dont use windows a heap. The problem is, that in bootcamp the slider to change the partition wont move. Any ideas?

Thanks, Hayden

Why don't you try what I said in my reply? There is no need to call Apple when you can easily resolve it yourself. You have to remove the old partition first before you can create a new one.

Yeah i have removed the old partition through bootcamp assistant & it is definitely gone (cannot be seen in DU). But, the 125GB that was on the partition are completely missing!

It's not missing. That space was rejoined to and is once again part of the OS X partition.

Now you will use the BCA to create your 80GB partition.
