How to get rid of gray bar on bottom of browser?

For some reason the other day this gray bar appeared on the bottom of my screen when I opened up safari and Im not sure how to get rid of it.

Does anyone know?

That bar is referred to as the status bar. If you look carefully as a page loads it will provide some indication of what parts of the page are loading.

To hide the status bar again do either of the following with Safari open and active:

!. Go to the View menu and choose "Hide Status Bar". OR

2. With Safari open press the command and / keys simultaneously.

Glad to help. I used to keep that bar open all the time but not so much anymore. With faster Macs and faster internet connections the information there usually goes by too fast to read, Especially with the tiny font.
