    Late-2012MBP, Early-2009MBP 15"(new to me)iPad Air 64GB iPad Air 2 6
    Searched for some answers, no luck! May I have a *.dmg (image of existing hard drive)
    on the same drive I use for my backups or must I make a partition? Thanks in advance.

    Specs:
    2012 13" MBP (2.5 i5, 8GB)
    What are you using to make backups? Regardless of the solution however, it would be best to have it on a separate partition (and it would be even better to have it on a separate drive).
