I have a 21" Imac and have had it for 3 years. Never really had any problems at all . :)

But now I have some kind of issue with videos from websites. When I got to certain websites that have small videos on the page, my system locks up for a while then eventually starts working again. But if I change pages and another video is there, it locks up again

When it locks up, every thing locks up. Mouse wont move and I get the colorful circle where my pointer is. Lasts about 30=50 seconds. Everything is dead.

for instance, ESPN.com is a main one. It has vidoes on the main page. When I go there, I can see a message where the video is that says, "Adobe flashplayer is needed to view this page". I downloaded the newest version but it did not fix my issue..

I am Using Lion 10.7.4

I usually go to this page everyday with no issues. Any help is very appreciated..

Lockups can be related to hardware issues but first it's suggested that you do some local cleaning up of your iMac. Download the free OnyX cleanup and maintenance tool and use it in automatic mode. If that doesn't help to clear it up, there may be hardware issues.

Boot your iMac to its recovery partition (command + r) and use Disk Utility to do a verify on the hard drive. A hard drive that has errors can cause lock ups especially when running videos which tax the system.

Thanks so much for the advice. I have heard that OnyX is a good tool to use.

I have had my Mac for a few years and have not done any maintenance on it. I have also not had any problems. I purchased my wife a IMac last year and it has been good too.

I ended up fixing the issue early this morning. I did a good bit of digging and it seems that the ESPN site uses a lot with the flash player. I unInstalled my flash player and reInstalled it and it fixed my problem. I had already reInstalled it but I did not UnInstall it before I did. Not really sure why it made a difference but it did fix my problem..

Thanks again for the advice...

OK, thanks for posting back. Yes, the Adobe Flash player has to be uninstalled properly before you can reinstall. But go ahead and use OnyX anyway as that will do some additional safe cleaning up for you and probably speed your iMac up in the process.
