printing with 10.7.4

I have a Ricoh Aficio Color5560 connected by USB, my mac recognised the printer but cancelled software download half way with a software not available message. The Ricoh site has a PPD for 10.7 but this allowed me to set up but showed the printer as offline. After several deletions and resets thought I had solved it only to find that my printer (a couple of rooms away) printed the job title and then blank sheets until a paper jam or the paper ran out. I don't profess to be too knowledgeable on these matters however my other printer (Epson Cx21NF) worked straight away from USB. Any help would be appreciated.
Forgive me if I have missed a thread, I did look first.
