eugh this has gotta be one of the most frustrating problems!

Mini Mac (Mountain Lion)
iPad 2
iPhone 4s
My Mac is perfectly connected to the network via an ethernet cable, i have a iphone 4s and iPad 2 connected wirelessly (to the same network)
the remote app intermitently works via home shareing or adding it as a device, it just randomly chooses when it wants to work, and most often that not doesnt...
any help or advice?
ive repeatedly turned home shareing on and off on my mac...
also on myipad ive got rowmote to use as a trackpad for the mac... again intermitently works..
last but not least the photo stream on icloud, syncs between my iphone and ipad, i get nothing on my mac?
anybody know how i could troubleshoot this and figure out the problem?
i have perfect internet and network access on the Mac and the firewall is turned off....
