I've been dual-booting SL and Lion for a while before I make the upgrade, and one thing which bugs me about Lion is the desktop switching animation - in Snow Leopard this is smooth and swift with no lag, but in Lion there's an annoying brief delay before the App on the new desktop regains focus, and the desktop contents are refreshed. Is everyone else seeing this lag, or is it just me?

I'm running Lion on a new Air and have just installed it on my Mac Mini which my GF is now using. Very smooth on both machines. Did you do a fresh install or did you install on a Snow Leopard build. Personally I don't like the idea of OS upgrades. With them being 2 yearish cycles I tend to start fresh. Otherwise it can be like building on top of the Leaning Tower of Pisa ;)

yes, its a dual-boot, so it was a fresh install.

So I take it you don't see any slight delay in the active App regaining focus when you switch desktops?

northrnchimp: is it possible your MBP doesn't have a great graphics card? If so, that could be the issue. The graphic for Lion switching is just a wee bit more graphically demanding than the SL one was (mostly in the way Lion draws the screen once the switch has actually happened). Just a guess, but perhaps that's the issue.

I just went into an Apple store and tried an 11" and 13" Air and a 13" and 15" MBP and they all did the same thing, so I guess its a Lion issue, not just me.

Hey chap. When you say desktop switching, do you mean 'Spaces'? If so mine is very smooth. Both on my new Macbook Air and on my old Mac Mini. I have multiple apps running at a time and couldn't ask for it to be any smoother.

Is a bit slower switching users, but thats to be expected.
