    - About 2 or 3 weeks later, iMac A started getting kernel panics almost immediately after startup, all the time. That's what most of this thread has been about.
    - Within a day or two of iMac A freaking out constantly, iMac B had another during-use panic.
    - Within a day or two of THAT happening, I walked in on iMac C sitting at a post-Netflix episode screen with a KP grey screen up in front of it.

iMacs B and C haven't been experiencing multiple panics, but the fact that they happened at all so close to iMac A completely losing its mind is what made me suspicious. I can't say that they have been fixed on B and C as they have never been a constant problem like they are with A.
I don't know about anyone else...but after all of the iMac A, B, and C identifiers...I'm more confused than ever as to which is which.

Why not tell us what model iMacs you have...and maybe that would help us understand...or visualize what you're working with.

Also (I think that you've already done this on at least one of your iMac's)...but booting from an OS DVD is one way to almost 100% eliminate software as a cause of the KP. If you still get KP's on an iMac during or after booting from an OS DVD...then it's almost definitely a hardware incompatibility (bad ram) or hardware failure issue.

iMac A - 20" core 2 duo, White. The very last white imac model made.
iMac B - 21" core 2 duo, Silver. The first run of silver and black flat panels.
iMac C - 24" core 2 duo, Silver. I THINK this is from the same time period as imac B.

I WOULD believe that it's hardware related because of how quickly Mac A jumps to that panic, except that just now on iMac B, after 2-ish days of running just fine, I flipped on my audio interfaces (maybe the 5th time I've done this in the last two days) and got a panic. The fact that these are all just starting at the same time is nagging at me. I suppose I could have hardware failure on all 3 of my computers at the same time, but I have a pretty hard time believing that without some sort of definitive proof. Log file:

Thanks for the info on the iMacs...it helps (at least me) to put a "face" on each of your iMacs!

As far as having three iMacs getting kernel panics at the same time...I'm still thinking this is:

    - next to impossible (or VERY unlucky)
    - a couple of these iMacs were sitting unused (and had existing kernel panics from a long time ago)...and the kernel panics were forgotten until the computers were turned back on.
    - someone just recently purchased these three iMacs...and they all had kernel panics when purchased
    - some sort of "bad" software is installed on all three (potentially software for a shared peripheral such as a printer).
    - someone has been swapping incompatible ram into one or more of these iMacs
    - a hardware failure (logic board related) has occurred on one or more of these iMacs causing the KP's

I think that this pretty much covers 99% of the possibilities for KP's occurring on three iMac's at about the same time. It's now your job to narrow down the possibilities...and troubleshoot.

The definitive proof could be all the troubleshooting you've done so far...and still getting KP's. I think that you need to tackle each one of these computer's one at a time...and after COMPLETELY troubleshooting each one...cross it off the list. If the KP's aren't solved...then it must be a hardware issue.

    Start with:

    - removing all incompatible ram (if exists)
    - try booting from OS disc
    - run hardware test from grey disc #2 (if you have the original gray disks for each computer)

I'll try a little harder to run some hardware tests off of Grey Disk 2 on the white iMac, as well as the other two. In the meantime, did you see anything telling in the most recent error report I posted for my 21" silver iMac?

I'm curious what might be the issue here. Seems far from coincidence, so worth watching this post.

    ...been watching this thread.

Has [bad] electricity been considered as a possible factor?

Dips in voltage that are not large enough to cause shutdown (or even dim your lights) can still cause undesirable system behaviors -- the resulting errors would be intermittent, inconsistent, and would likely affect all systems on the circuit (though possibly in different ways). Sound familiar?

Anyways, it's just a thought. I have seen it happen before, and hadn't seen it mentioned here.

    Good luck!

Interesting. Our power isn't particularly "clean" but i don't know that it has voltage dip issues- though it could. The only way I'd think that'd be a problem is if it had damaged hardware on all of my machines simiarly. I have a hard time wanting to believe that though, too, because of the white 20" that crashes almost immediately upon startup, which I consider far from intermittent. Also, I've had all 3 computers for pretty vastly different periods of time, so it's not like they all would've gotten worn down to the same level of "broken" at the same time or something...

I booted the 20" into hardware test mode and did both the quick and extensive tests, and it found no issues! Seems like good news, though doesn't really make this any less confusing.

My third iMac, the 24", has only had 1 panic through this whole thing. Here is the panic report for that one crash. I've previously posted reports for KPs on my two other machines... can someone who understands this stuff pick up on anything the three have in common that might point me toward an answer?

    me too
I have iMac 7,1 which is 2007 model and 20"

I also experience frequent KPs after upgrading to snow leopard recently. The iMac run fine in 10.5.

I searched many forums and find that many people experiences KPs.

I have Applecare for 3 years with no problems in 10.5. Once upgrade to 10.6, KPs happened.

Kernel Panics On All 3 iMacs?

Sorry I lost contact with the world there for a while... Life got busy.

I followed directions I found on diagnosing kernel panics, and booted off a system disk and repaired all of the permissions and cleared the system cache with some third party free software. This seems to have solved the problems on my panic-at-boot Mac! The computer has hardly been used since I solved this problem due to more pressing issues in my life, but I had the machine successfully running for a few days with zero issues before shutting it down on my own free will. My house is in the middle of getting re-arranged so the computer hasn't made it back to its original desk yet, it's still on my work bench in the basement... I'll supply further updates once I'm sure it can stand on its own feet again. My other two computers have had no problems since fixing the boot panic mac! Thanks for everyone's help, let's hope this is all it took.
