    panic(cpu 1 caller 0x2abf6a): Kernel trap at 0x00c98481, type 14=page fault, registers:

    ++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I got the message to shut down my computer & restart, then I got this message.
I had used the Time Machine to Back Up to my external Drive. (Just started doing this)
And then I had watched a DVD.

This is the beginning of 4 pages.

    What does it mean?
    How did it happen?
    Should I be concerned?

    Thanks Ahead.

What you are experiencing is a Kernel Panic attack. Usually caused by hardware problems that can include but not limited faulty memory, failing hard drive etc. No doubt you have the original system discs that came with the machine, if so run Apple Hardware Test in the extended mode. If the machine shipped with Lion and there are no install discs, follow this from Apple whilst connected to the 'net to run the test:-

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

    What are the Odds?
Thanks, what are the odds that I get the external drive - LaCie 500GB Porsche Design Pí9221 Mobile Hard Drive, on 2/29, use Time Machine on 3/1 & then get this message....

    Why?
I have not run the test yet, but why will I need the original disks? Will the test tell me what to do if there is something wrong?

It is possible that the external disk is causing the issue. I've seen kernel panics due to a corrupted Time Machine drive before.

If that is true how would I know? The Time Machine software was on my computer when I got it, & Apple has the external drive on their website - I got it there. The external drive has a 2 yr warranty but how would I know if that was the cause. Oh, I do not keep the ecternal drive connected. I had planned to just use it to backup the data files every few weeks.

Also, the notice I got sent the message to Apple - will they notify me & help we with the problem?

Please help, I can not believe this has happened.

Well if you had the system or original disc boot from them, go into Utilities > Disk Utility and run Repair Disk on internal then external and see what is reported.

They will not help with the problem - just assists in future Software Updates maybe.

If you mean the external drive, the only thing I got was the drive. It said that I needed to run the LaCie Setup Assistant. If I didn't my drive will not be ready to use & will require manual formatting. So I ran that, and then opened my TIme Machine and worked from there.

I got replies on my other thread and did the following:

Ran the AHT did the extended test first & then the regular test. Both showed "no problem".

Do these tests check the Time Machine & DVD player?

I have not had the message again, is that a good sign?

    Thanks again.

    Thanks Ahead.
