Hello

A friend is having the following problem and would appreciate a little help!

She has a Mac with OS X, version 10.4.11 and an external usb connected LaCie 500GB hard disk.

This worked in the past but she can no longer see any of the files on the external disk.

She has tried connecting it to a Windows PC but no luck there either.

Any suggestions for a solution?!

Cheers

Geoff

It sounds like the LaCie drive has failed. Ask your friend to open Disk Utility to determine if the drive can be seen from there.

Given that it is a Lacie drive, it is a good guess that the enclosure has died. You could try a different power supply and data cable to be sure. But other than that, you may have to open the enclosure and try the drive in a different enclosure to see if the drive is still good and to retrieve your data.

I should have said - we tried that and there was no detail in the window where I gather there should have been ...

You can get one from OWC, Newegg or Tigerdirect.
