    ReportCrash problem
    Hello all,

My wife stated the other day that her Mid 2010 MacBook was running more slowly then normal. After some basic trouble shooting fixes failed I opened up Acitvity Monitor and noticed that a process called ReportCrash was using nearly a 25% of the CPU every 8-11 seconds. I did some research online and discovered that most likely a program/process keeps trying to run and ReportCrash keeps logging it. Then I opened up the Console and found the following:

    Process: avgnotifyd [76857]
    Path: /opt/avg/*/avgnotifyd
    Identifier: avgnotifyd
    Version: ??? (???)
    Code Type: X86-64 (Native)
    Parent Process: launchd [1]

    Date/Time: 2012-02-14 13:53:40.654 -0500
    OS Version: Mac OS X 10.7.3 (11D50)
    Report Version: 9

    Crashed Thread: 0

    Exception Type: EXC_BREAKPOINT (SIGTRAP)
    Exception Codes: 0x0000000000000002, 0x0000000000000000

    Application Specific Information:
    dyld: launch, loading dependent libraries

    Dyld Error Message:
    Library not loaded: /Library/PrivateFrameworks/AVGLnscServices.framework/Versions/A/AVGLnscServices

    Reason: image not found

That's where my knowledge on what to do ends. I've searched forums and help sites and if the answer to this is there I don't know enough to see it. Let me know if you need any more info and what it may be. Any help is appreciated.

I see a lot of mentions of AVG in that report..looks like you've got that anti-virus running on there..Mac's are general immune to viruses and you are only hurting your system performance by running a anti-virus software..

What probably helps to keep you safer on your Mac is to be weary of what sites you visit on the Internet and what files you download and EXTRA weary whenever your administrator password is asked. With these simple things you can use your Mac without any extra "protection"..

To that end, you might want to uninstall AVG and see if the system returns to it's speedy ways..

I thought that too and since I know linkscanner was installed on her MacBook I downloaded the uninstall tool and used it. Didn't help. Thanks though!
