    Unhappy Lion Problem
    Hi everyone!

I hope one of you guys would be able to answer my questions. I upgraded my OS when the lion came out. It took me 2 hours to install. After a couple of days, i had problems with the rainbow spinning wheel and start up.
whenever i would turn on my MBP, it freezes. i cannot do anything. there is no task bar. i always end up force shut down by holding the power button. can you guys help me with this? what should i do to avoid the rainbow spinning wheel and what should i do if my MBP doesn't work at start up?

    I need your help guys.

    thanks in advance.

Download another copy of Lion by going to the App STore, hold down Option whilst hitting purchases, click on the icon and download another copy. Then follow instructions and burn to a USB thumb drive. Format the hard drive to Mac OS Extended and select GUID under Options in partition and do a clean install.

Reports MacBooks in particular had problems with the upgrade.

Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!

And the first thing you should do is create a backup.

Were you having any problems before Lion? The fact that the install took two hours has me a bit "twitchy". Launch Disk Utility and have it check the drive for issues.

I agree with Slydude. When I installed Lion on my MacBook it took around 15 minutes at most. The iMac took a bit longer because the hard drive was larger. Two hours is not normal.

    Specs:
    iMac late 2007 10.11.b4, iMac 2008 10.10.5, Macbook2007 10.7.5, Mac Mini 10.7.5, iPhone 3GS Note 8!!
Two hours is WAY long. I think even with my lowly (By Todays Standards) 3MB DSL that gets 318K Per Second till the end of the install was not much more than 2 hours. It took 2 hours here to download and I would say 15-20 MAX on the 2007 iMac to be at the desktop when I clicked on install. I did a Clean install to a separate Partition on the internal hard drive from a bootable Flash drive.

It took 10 minutes to make the bootable drive, so I would say 2.5 hours from when I clicked Purchase and download from the App store till it was at the Lion Desktop and again that was with a new Clean install.

I just checked my notes from when I was considering writing an article about Lion. My download took about 38 minutes (with a WoW game going on another machine and several apps running on the MacBook Pro in my sig). The install itself took about 32 minutes including a few optional installs such as extra voices.

I was having similar issues on my 2010 MBP... no freezes, but heaps of beach-balling and a massive loss of HDD space... was down to under 96Gb left. Today I reformatted and reinstalled. Whole job (including reinstalling all the apps and updating each) is now almost complete at a total cost of a little over 2 hours. My disk usage has reduced to under 70Gb in total, down from around 167Gb! The machine is working quicker and thus far, I'm a happy unit!
