Hey guys,

I have 12 music tracks on my macbook pro and their .flac files. I downloaded them and Itunes is unable to recognize them and play them. How would I convert these to mp3? (free of course..) Or does anyone know if there is a way iTunes 10 can be modified to recognize flac files?

Oh, I forgot to ask. By converting from awesome flac quality (I've never experience Flac, I just heard) to mp3, does it destroy the music quality? I'm mainly converting for 2 reasons- 1. Flac files can't be played on macs, 2. I want to sync the files to my iPhone, which I think is only doable through i tunes.

I would convert to AAC instead or even Apple Lossless. If AAC use a high Bitrate. MP3 as well as AAC are lossy formats, but AAC is less so. Apple Lossless will play on any Apple device and has no loss. If you have to stick with MP3 use 320K or so.

Macs can play FLAC just fine. VLC for example.

There are solutions. I recommend dTravis' solution and convert to AAC so that you can play said files in iTunes without worry, as well as putting those files on iPods etc.. OR

1. Download Fluke for Mac - Listen to FLAC files in iTunes. MacUpdate.com
2. Songbird - Welcome

I personally use Songbird at home. If I want FLAC on an iPod I convert to AAC, or just use a better Mp3 player such as my Sansa Fuze, Sansa e280, a ROCKbox'd iPod or iRiver H120 or 140.

Like I said, options. :Blushing:

Just a note, Fluke under Lion will NOT run unless you force iTunes to open in 32-bit mode which slows it way down, but then it does work.

I have always used the very simple player called COG.

Simple and plays OGG, FLAC and many more. It has not been updated in a while but works perfect under Lion. Using it now.
