Installed new Hard drive, can't find disk
I installed a new HD in my mid-2009 13" MBP. It's the seagate moment us xt. 500 gb. I inserted the install disk, it found the Time Machine I intended to use to install my old data. And when I selected at, I selected the time I wanted to restore it from, then I have to select a destination to install it. It seems it can't find the disk I just installed. However I went into System Profiler and saw the new drive I just installed. What is going on?

You probably need to format the drive, when you boot into the OSX disk click Utilities at the top followed by disk utility then click the new drive then click the erase tab, make sure you format it as Mac OS Extended.
Once done try using the Time Machine backup to restore your files.

    Hope this helps

Thank you so much. Worked like a charm.

However, when it found it, it said 465GB available as opposed to 500GB. Why is that?

That will probably be the available space left after transferring the files across, just tells you this as a "heads-up this is what you will be left with" kind of approach to things.

    HTH,

Expect to lose 5-7% of hdd contents on formatting and do a Google to find out the difference between actual and reported drive capacities.
Hang on to those original install discs like grim death! Using OS X.7 or later make a bootable USB thumb drive before running Installer!
