i cannot reformat my mac with os x 10.5 disc

hey guys i recently sold my mac mini on ebay. but im having a problem i cannot get it to do a clean install of os x 10.5 leopard. i currently have snow leopard 10.6.4 on my mac. ive tried to reset pram disk warrior the works. its a gray 10.5 disc that came with the mac mini so i dont see why it wont boot from it. please help it would be greatly appreciated ive spent my entire day yesterday trying to do this

I think if you wipe the drive first, it will boot from the old disc.

G'day and welcome to the forums.

First up, absolutely 100% sure it is the disc that came with the machine when brand new or what you have been told? They are easy to mix up. If it is original, just boot from the Leopard disc, go into Utilities in the Menu Bar, Disk Utility, hit erase, reformat Mac OS Extended Journalled and back to the Installer and see if it will run?

it doesnt boot from anything other than the internal hard drive which has the os on it. i cant boot from disc ive tried instlaling the install files to externals and flash drives. it wont boot from anything else so i have no way to formatting this hard drive.

It boots from its own hard drive. You need a utility to wipe the drive, then it should boot from the older install disc.

Holding the C key when booting up will force the Mac to boot up from whatever is in the CD drive. This should load the Installer from the disc, from which you can use Disk Utility (Utilities > Disk Utility) and wipe the hard drive completely clean.

Then you can go to the Partition tab and create a new partition for Leopard.

Presumably, the OP has tried that and it didn't work.

Pop in your SL disc and boot from that, wipe the drive, eject and if necessary reboot holding down the mouse button to eject the disc, pop in the Leopard system disk, boot from it and run the Installer.
