When I download things from the internet, like a word doc or pdf and things, they used to open and stay in the little download pop up window but now the pop will come and when it is at the end of the download it will disappear. I then have to open finder then the downloads folder to find what I just downloaded. I do not know why all of a sudden they stopped staying in the downloads pop up but how do I get them to stay there?

You have Glims installed, yes?

Safari - Preferences - Glims - Misc - uncheck Auto close download window when done.

Open Safari preferences, General Tab, - where it says "Remove download list items:" Make sure you set it to "manually".

Regards.

The Remove download list is set at manual and has been. I do not have any other plug ins that did not come with the computer. It never did this before until today and that is why I am confused by it.

That's pretty strange if you have not done anything new to Safari recently such as installing a plugin or something. Is the Download Window just going into the background behind your main Safari window? Download something and check by either pressing Command ~ to switch between windows or use Expose to see all the windows and apps you have open.

Also FYI you can always bring back the Download Window by going to "Window" in the Safari menu and then select Downloads. All your downloads should still show up if you have set to delete them manually.

That's a puzzling problem you have. I never heard of this happening before. You can try reinstalling Safari and see if that works. You might want to backup your bookmarks before doing so though. You can do so in the File->Export Bookmarks feature.

If that doesn't work then I'm all out of ideas and maybe someone else can help you.

I shut my computer off overnight last night and this morning it is working fine so I do not know why it was doing that last night. But it seems fixed right now

Was going to say... for these type problems, the first two things to try: 1) reboot and 2) try changing the preference to something else, closing out, then changing it back. Either one of these will work quite often.

Another quick question... In the downloads window in Finder all the updates for things are there along with things downloaded. Such as Java updates. Can those be deleted from that menu or will that delete the whole update?

Back to my old 2.2GHz C2D MB after selling my MBP and wondering what my next Mac will be :)
Yep, you can, as you have installed those items already :)

Now the list is auto clearing. The option in Safari is set to "Remove download list items" as "Manually" but it is doing it as if it was set at "Upon successful download" and I do not know why. Earlier today it was not auto clearing but over some time today it started to clear itself again.
