Widget on Desktop

I would love some help here... I know the terminal command (also kill finder) and then hold F12 for moving the widget to desktop. F12 is the volume key on MBP so I have hard time moving it out... any easier way to achieve this? Am I doing something wrong here?

10.6.3/13" MBP

Try using the dashboard key (F4). It isn't important that you use the F12 key, any key that will open or close the dashboard should work just fine.
