I am trying to move a large (30 gig file) from an old hard drive to the new one. it is a .pvm file, and so when it gets about 1.5 gigs in it hangs and says it cannot be transferred because some data can not be read or written. HELP! I need this file onto the new mac hdd. is it just a problem with transferring large files? both the HDD's are formated as mac os journaled. one is tiger, the new one is snow leopard.

First, make sure the drive that you are transferring the file to is indeed formatted as HFS Extended Journaled. The error you're getting can be caused by several things:

1. CRC errors

2. Destination drive is formatted to FAT-32.

Also, you stated that you're moving the file. I'm assuming you're attempting to copy it?

Regards.

yes i am trying to copy. neither is formated in a fat32. what is a CRC error? I have ran both a verify and a repair on the old drive, the reason i am replacing the drive is because it is starting to fail, only three bad blocks though.

Does it make sense to burn it on a disc and then try to copy it from there??

Might give the same error, I suppose.
