I posted this on Hardware by mistake so I'll repost it here.

Do I need VPN protection for my MacBook pro running Snow Leopard while I'm a full time RVer staying in camp grounds with WiFi hotspots?

Are the hot spots open access, or are they encrypted requiring a password for access? If encrypted with password they should be as secure as your wireless network at home. If open access, you have no protection. If this is a continuing concern, you may want to look into getting your own internet connection via a broadband USB modem. Verizon offers one that I use. It's good 3g here in Las Vegas, with very acceptable speeds for email and web surfing uses. Verizon's cellular network is the most extensive, and would probably offer you the best coverage for RVing. The 4g networks out there just aren't built out yet.
