Hello everyone,

I have a 2 GHZ 1GB of RAM 10.4.11 white Macbook since January 2007. Everything is well, great computer with no regrets. Recently it has been slowing down, especially when I have multiple browser tabs open I start seeing the beach ball often, and I wont be able to scroll up or down a page until the beach ball goes away.

Is there anything I can do, to refresh things back up and speed up the computer.

When it slows down nothing else is running, ie iphoto , itunes.........etc

I do have Mainmenu and I did the Maintenance scripts but still no improvement in performance.

thanks

Try resetting Safari to clean out the cache and cookies etc. that may be loaded up in it from much use?

I thought it was software update because when I did it today, it said "Performance Update 1.0" in the details.

Check your HD/Library/StartUpItems for old programs, PrefPanes for the same. Sped up Tiger for me

Well you can always run Onyx, which is a very handy maintenance utility. It can clean all your cache, verify/repair permissions, and even force the daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance scripts that you might miss if you shut down (or sleep) your computer every night.

deus_ex_machina had a good point also in clearing the startup items. I think you can also do this from the Accounts section under System Preferences.

I would suggest installing that program and running it. As you had mentioned, there are no more performance updates for your OS since you are running on Tiger. 10.4.11 is the last update. I guess if you wanted you could always upgrade to Leopard or even SL, your computer can handle it.

a) Get a new OS (10.6 preferably)
b) get more RAM because sites are using much more in the way of flash ads and other crap lately, which will eat your 1gig of RAM alive, especially with multiple tabs, and even worse if you have other apps open
c) no one has asked... how much free disk space do you have? If it is less than 15-25% of your drive's total capacity, free up some space. I always try to leave 25% free, just in case
d) did I already say... get more RAM.
