localhost /usr/sbin/ocspd[59]: starting

I have been having problems with my Mac Pro booting up. On a normal run it gets to the loading screen (Apple logo and spinning gear) and after a few moments it freezes and stays that way.

I have spent countless hours researching and trying new solutions with no change in my problem. Tried booting from the disc and it froze, tried to get into safe mode and it did not let me, went into single-user mode and tried fixing things from there with no change, turned the computer into Target Mode and ran Disk utility to Repair Permissions and Repair Disk, used DiskWarrior 4 the same way to try and fix my problems and nothing has helped.

Just now I found information on starting in Verbose mode so I could see what my problem may be and I see that it gets stuck at "localhost /usr/sbin/ocspd[59]: starting" and do not know what to do.

Anyone know what's going on here?

Well, here is the man page for ocspd which doesn't help but it's here in case you're interested to know what it does. Some more reading here and here. What I can glean from looking around (this has me completely puzzled but I'll try to take it on), it appears that Little Snitch could be the problem (as evidenced by that last link). Do you have Little Snitch installed?

EDIT: It could also have something to do with the vid card. Take a read through that last link.

I HAD Little Snitch installed not too long ago. Pretty sure I got rid of it though. I am going through and reading all the links right now. Anything else you can offer? I am COMPLETELY puzzled. Cannot even Archive & Install because my Mac Pro, even from trying to load from the disk in regular OR Target Disk Mode, freezes at the same point as usual...

Trying different things I got different errors. It gets to different parts then stops working. Verbose mode is good for showing me when it stops but since it is different every time I have no idea what the problem really is...

UPDATE: turned out to be a video card problem i'm pretty sure. Read through those links and found a post that described a solution to the problem of the computer not starting up due to it hanging before loading the GUI and I was able to log in and get onto my desktop. The commands I used were:

Boot to the command line using: -s

At the command line enter:

mount -o update / *This allows you to modify files*

cd /System/Library

rm Extensions.mkext *removes kext cache*

cd Extensions

mv NVDAResman.kext NVDAResman.back *Renames the problem kext file*

shutdown -h now

Since I do not know what booting with -f is nor how to change the names back after installing graphics I will just back everything up, erase and install, start from scratch and hopefully be happy ^_^

THANK YOU SO MUCH! I do not know if my problem is fixed but since I CAN get into the computer I am able to reformat and start over after backing up.

Turns out I NEED to figure out what boot with -f means, and how to do it, as well as what is meant by get my graphics card in order and rename the file back. I am on my desktop and able to use my computer again but I need to get the rest of those steps done so I KNOW everything is how it should be. I want to install SL but I cannot boot from ANY disk to install. Freezes the same way I was freezing when I was trying to get onto the computer in the fist place... any ideas?

I know this is an old thread, but I had the same symptoms on a 24" iMac late 2006, and disabling the NVIDIA driver got it running again. Thanks a million for posting the outcome of your problem.

In verbose mode I saw that the last thing it loaded was ocspd, keychain, but the next line was supposed to be something about loading OpenGL, so that's what I figured was locking it up. That's how a Google search brought me here

The machine runs, but things like DVD Player, iMovie, and Photo Booth won't run.

CNN video plays. Apple HD trailers play. youtube and Hulu play, but any full screen video except QuickTime is jumpy. Screen Saver is jumpy. At least for now they have time to plan for a new machine, no need to put that money into an old machine.
