Last night, I started having problems with my iMac; beachball galore and the system froze. This morning, I ran the maintenance scripts and the repaired the permissions (using Main Menu) and got weird results, even have a hard time booting and the computer is running extremely slow (beachball when running any application) when I get it to boot (turned on after 4 or 5 attempts, even had a hard time in safe mode).

iMac 24 (aluminum)
2.4 Intel C2D
2 GB DDR2 SDRAM
Leopard 10.5.6

I've attached the repair permissions log to see if someone could figure something out or point me in the right direction. I also wonder is this could be some kind of hardware failure.

Any suggestions would be appreciated,
Gene

It shouldn't be doing that, but lets help you out

Do you run a lot of fonts?

If not, I would try applying the combo update, even if you are already on 10.5.6, it often refreshes a troublesome install, especially after several updates

Thanks Louishen, out of curiosity, why shouldn't you be doing that? LOL!

Do you run a lot of fonts?
No, only the standard fonts that come with Leopard and a few installed by other applications.

Thanks for the link, I usually update via the automatic function. Will this simply overwrite the existing updates while correcting some that may have become damaged or corrupted? Also, after doing the bundled update, should I run the repair permissions utility?

Off-topic: I've never cleaned any of the user or system caches except for my browser's (FF set to clean caches when exiting the program) and am a bit weary of doing so after reading horror stories on how it could foul up your system if not done correctly, does MainMenu (or another utility such as Applejack) "safely" clean caches without complications?

Thanks for your help, I really appreciate it.

Cheers,
Gene

Hmm, another problem, can't even open a DMG file (bundled update), double click on it and nothing happens...

I have macbook 2.4 GHz 2Gb
My mac got slower when the hard drive became full. Even though I deleted and had 40Gb on it, it is still slow.
I started up, may computer and installed windows Xp. When my Mac's hard dive became full, I had the same problem with it. I don't want to start it up again. Please help me if you know about it.

Thanks for the replies but my problem was hardware related, I couldn't even boot from the OS disk so I brought it in for repairs.

Thanks,
Gene
