keychain and password works - then does not

I'm having an odd problem. My logins for web forums etc. seem to work after the machine is first booted up, then shortly after they are no longer there.

Secure info stored in a keychain disappears as well.

I've cleared the cookie file and thats not fixing it. I've done a search here for random problems with passwords but couldn't find any results.

anyone have some ideas?
