Connecting to a shared folder via VPN

Hi,
I am able to connect via VPN using RSA securid. When I try to connect to a share either by using the name or by IP address I get a connection failed.I open finder and click go and connect to server. TYPE SMB://xx.xx.xxx.xx/sharename or SMB://servername/sharename it doesn't matter. I get a Connection Failed message after a couple of minutes. What do I need to do to get this fixed? NEWBIE on MAC!

can you ping either the IP or hostname? If you can can you telnet to port 445 on it? (telnet <hostname or IP> 445) to break that hit ctrll-] then type close

no. the ping just hangs. it's weird. I am connecting to a website on firefox and passing it credentials on the website with the RSA securid number. Not sure what am I doing wrong.

Sounds like your VPN is either not connected successfully, or there are configuration issues with it on the host side (vpn server)
