Desktop Icons - Arrangement

Can I set my desktop preferences to automatically arrange my desktop icons to the right instead of left?

Go to System Preferences....Dock....select which way you want the items to show up.

Your desktop icons are like newtons 1st law. they will stay there until you move them. If you mean "automatically" as in when plugging in an external device they will automatically appear on the right side then I have no idea how to do that.

Can you turn OS X into windows? No.

All the automatic arrangement options default to the right... just one of those minor differences.

Umm I don't think that's what the OP wanted. He was asking about the Icons on the desktop. Not the dock. >_>"?

yeah oops i mixed it up in my original post..

i meant that i want them to arrange to the left.


if i move them to the left side of the screen, wont they default back to the right upon restarting?

I believe everything will stay where you put them except for your disk drive icons. I think they will move back to the right side.
