I have an old G4 (800Mhz - 1Gb RAM 17" screen) using OSX 10.4 and have recently had a Windows PC die. The HD from the Windows PC is sound and it has a lot of 'stuff' on there I would like to use.

I can access all the stuff (but not run the programs) using it with another PC in an external caddy. However, I was wondering if I could hook-up the caddy to the G4 and boot into Windows XP from the old HD?

If this is naive/daft please excuse.

Not with the 800MHz G4. An Intel machine may well as they are Windows bootable.

For an external Mac drive, on PowerPC machines, to be bootable must be connected by firewire and formatted with Apple Partition Map which as you can see presents the problem.
