to put a password on certain software so you cant open them without it.

Not that I am aware of unless the user account is a non-admin account. If so, then you can simply specify what apps can not be opened by the user. Once set those Apps can not be opened from within the account even by an admin.

Some of that may have changed. The last non-admin account I had on one of my machines was on my daughters iBook and she is still running 10.4.10. They may have changed some things in 10.5.
