Timeout for External HardDrives?

Your Mac's Specs
MacBook 2Ghz Intel Core Duo - MacMini 1.66Ghz Intel Core Solo
I have 2x400GB hard drives networked up to my Mini, but am having problems as when the both wind down (not turn off, just go to sleep), and I try to access them after a few mins, I get 'disk error' messages as the Mini timesout looking for them.

Does anyone know how to increase this timeout?
